Supporting Christchurch Earthquake 2011.2.22

2011年2月22日にニュージーランド・クライストチャーチ近郊で発生したマグニチュード6.3の地震は、歴史ある街に、人々の生活に、甚大な被害をもたらしました。翌月3月11日の東日本大震災の発生により、世界の関心や支援の手は，被災が続くニュージーランドから，ここ東北に移りました。

ニュージーランドに限らず、四川、ハイチ、スマトラ沖…すべてそうでしたが、次に、世界の他の地域で大規模な震災が起きれば、世界の関心や支援の手は日本から別の地域へ移ることになるでしょう。しかしながら、被災地の復興には、長い長い時間がかかり、継続的な取組みが必要です。そのためにも、クライストチャーチ支援の取組みを続けていくことは、私たちの仙台にとっても、とても大切なことだと考えます。

On February 22, 2011, at 12.51, a 6.3 magnitude earthquake struck 10km south of Christchurch, New Zealand. Many buildings were damaged and precious lives were lost. The Christchurch Earthquake Appeal in SENDAI was started to show support to those that were affected by the earthquake. All donations collected will be sent to Christchurch on behalf of Sendai.

Due to the Great East Japan Earthquake on March 11, the world's attention and aid has turned from New Zealand to here in Japan. If there were to be another large scale earthquake like there has been in Siachuan, Haiti and Sumatra, the focus and aid would then turn to that area. Nevertheless, it takes a very long time to recover from such a disaster and we believe that it is important to continue showing support. For this reason, the Christchurch Earthquake Appeal in Sendai intends to keep supporting Christchurch.
