As we reported on our homepage and Twitter, we had a booth at the recent Sendai World Festa. Thanks to volunteers and staff, we were able to make it through the day.
But the day wasn’t just about collecting donations, and we planned many fun activities for children to participate in.
First, they were able to learn about New Zealand culture by making Maori headbands. Even though they were made out of paper and rubber bands, the designs on them were authentic Maori designs that the kids were then able to colour themselves.
For children who were too young to make a headband, we had also prepared some coloring book pictures of kiwi birds and sheep. The wonderful pictures were drawn by one of the CEA members!
About 30 people participated.
But the most popular activity was probably the game “Find Kaleb.” Because of his role as member of the festival staff, Kaleb was unable to be at the CEA booth. But we plotted a way for people to say hello to Kaleb during the Festa and be given a present. Children who spotted him and greeted him with “Kia ora” were given candy.
We were able to collect 5,510 yen in donations from almost 20 people. Thank you all so much!
