仙台からの支援金をクライストチャーチに届けました！Donations from Sendai Reach Christchurch!

　これまで街頭活動や募金箱の設置、イベントの呼びかけなどで支援金を募ってきたCEA in SENDAI。

 　東日本大震災により私たち自身も被災しましたが、それでも活動を継続してきました。

　その経験から「集めたお金は、本当に支援を必要としている人たちへ直接届けたい」とメンバーで話し合い、支援先を探すことにしました。

 

　現地で活動する団体やグループを調べ，私たちの支援先に決めたのは「Cholmondeley」。

　クライストチャーチ郊外にある児童養護施設で，さまざまな問題を抱える子どもたちのケアをしています。

　震災でより大きな困難を抱えるのはそうした子どもたちだと考え，支援を決めました。

　その後調整に時間が掛かりましたが，震災から1年を目前とした2/13，昨年9月まで仙台で暮らしていたメンバーのソフィーがCholmondeleyを訪問。ファンドレイザーのShelley Keachさん，ファンドレイジング マネージャーのSarah Barrerさん，ジェネラル マネージャーのShane Murdochさんに会うことが出来ました。

　震災で被害を受けたCholmondelyの建物は今だ使えず，子どもたちは別の場所で暮らしているとのこと。

 

　仙台の皆様からお預かりした支援金7万2千円は，1,053ドル20セントのチェックにし，確かにお渡ししました。

　現地のこれからを担う子どもたちのために，大切に使っていただけると思います。

 

Thanks to donations from people on the street and at events, as well as those who put money into donation boxes, CEA in Sendai has been able to collect a lot of donations for the city of Christchurch. Even though we here in Sendai also suffered from a devastating earthquake last year, we have continued our efforts to raise money for Christchurch.

 

We felt it was important to send the donations to a place where money was deeply needed and where it could be put to good use. After looking at various groups in Christchurch that are actively working for the public good, we settled on Cholmondeley as the recipient of the donations. Cholmondeley is a facility in the suburbs of Christchurch that take helps to care for children who are in various situations of need. Such children suffered disproportionately from the earthquake, so we decided that they would benefit greatly from our help.

After settling on Cholmondeley as the recipient, getting through the red tape took quite a while, and before we knew it almost a year had passed since the disaster. But on February 13, CEA member Sofie, who had been living in Sendai until last September, visited Cholmondeley and met with the General Manager, Shane Murdoch; Fundraising Manager, Sarah Barrer; and Fundraiser, Shelley Keach.

 

Right now, the damage from the quake is preventing Cholmondeley from using their facilities, so the children are currently living in a separate location.

 

We received over 72,000円 from the people of Sendai, which we then sent in a cheque for NZ$1,053.20. We are sure that Cholmondeley will put the money to good use supporting the children of Christchurch.
